Trivia…

Most of the journal entries are more serious, but I thought some of you might like to read about some of the lighter side…

THE CHASE IS ON…

I have been encouraging some of our workers to get up and exercise with me early in the morning. Our pastoral assistant was out jogging with me, several mornings in a row… I happened to be in front, and he was following behind as we went past a man alongside the path, who exclaimed “You were chasing him yesterday, and here you are, still chasing him…!” Our assistant just smiled…

FALLING STARS

I saw more falling stars on this trip than I think I have ever seen in my entire life, put together! The skies are smog free out there in the islands, so the stars are bright and beautiful at night. I would often go outside at night, since it was so very hot in the house without electricity for the fans. As I lay outside under the stars, looking up into the heavens, I counted 19 falling stars… 8 of them had the comet trails following. One of them was especially awesome, as it laid a huge, long trail across the sky…

CREATIVE WONDERS

As I ponder the many creative acts of God, that He has made for our enjoyment, I am in awe! Swimming among the coral reefs, and seeing all the variety of coral, and multi-colored fish, as well as the beauty of the ocean and the white sandy seashores. The graceful palm trees and jungle foliage, the tremendous variety of seashells, etc.. I am continually amazed, and give God praise…

MORE ON BAPTISMAL SERVICE IN POLLILIO

The ocean water was so-o HOT, it almost felt like we were baptizing in hot springs water, or in a hot tub! After baptizing, I just sat in the hot water, and enjoyed it for awhile. Then, before I was able to get into a change of clothes, the Pastor there at Guinagayen insisted I rinse off. He led me to a public spot with people watching, gave me soap and expected me to take a bath by pouring dirty water from the container over myself. Of course, I did it with pants on, but I’m still not sure that kind of bathing environment would have been some peoples idea of a good time! Guess it all kinda goes along with the territory sometimes…

BUGS…

During one of our video training sessions, our assistant came over with a BIG smile on his face showing me a special prize he put into his pocket. It was a bright green beetle bug type thing! He likes to EAT them! (He likes to get them by the 1/2 kettle full, and cook them.and … that’s right… enjoy a munchy crunchy lunchy! 🙂 Mmm..?! I couldn’t resist telling him “You can have it…!!”
