This is a continuation of the message last week. It helps us prioritize seeking the Lord and spending time in the Word God when we remember the importance and value of His Word.
As we consider some of the many ways that Jesus speaks to us & helps us through His Word, it helps us appreciate the blessings of God’s Word.
VALUE OF THE WORD
GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION / LIGHT
PSALM 119:105 – YOUR WORD is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
PSALM 119:130 – The entrance of YOUR WORDS gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.
JOY
JEREMIAH 15:16 – YOUR WORDS were found, and I ate them, and YOUR WORD was to me the JOY AND REJOICING of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.
JOHN 15:11 – “These things I have spoken to you, that MY JOY may remain in you, and that YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL.” (JESUS)
I JOHN 1:4 – And these things WE WRITE TO YOU that your JOY MAY BE FULL.
PSALM 119:162 – I REJOICE at YOUR WORD as one who finds GREAT TREASURE. (Ps. 19:11)
PEACE
PSALM 119:165 – GREAT PEACE have those who love Your law (WORD), and nothing causes them to stumble (be offended).
ACTS 10:36 – The WORD WHICH GOD SENT to the children of Israel, preaching PEACE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST—He is Lord of all—
CLEANSING
JOHN 15:3 – You are already CLEAN BECAUSE OF THE WORD which I have spoken to you.
PS. 119:9,11 – How can a young man CLEANSE HIS WAY? By taking heed according to YOUR WORD.11 YOUR WORD I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
EPH.5:25-27 – Christ also loved THE CHURCH and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might SANCTIFY AND CLEANSE her with the washing of water BY THE WORD, 27 that He might present her to Himself A GLORIOUS CHURCH, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be HOLY AND WITHOUT BLEMISH.
IT IS A GREAT, ETERNAL TREASURE
JOB 23:12 – I have TREASURED the WORDS OF HIS MOUTH more than my necessary food.
PSALM 19:10 – MORE TO BE DESIRED ARE THEY THAN GOLD, yea, than much fine gold…
MATTHEW 24:35 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
MATTHEW 6:19-20 – …lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…
IT IS THE KEY TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH
I PETER 2:2,3 …as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of THE WORD, THAT YOU MAY GROW thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
THE WORD OF GOD IS A DELIGHT
PSALM 37:3-5 – Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and FEED ON HIS FAITHFULNESS.4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
IT HELPS US TO BE SUCCESSFUL
PS. 1:1-3-Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and WHATEVER HE DOES SHALL PROSPER.
JOSH. 1:8-This Book of the Law (WORD) shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
THE WORD OF GOD BRINGS ANSWERS TO PRAYER
JOHN 15:7 – If you abide in Me, and MY WORDS abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and IT SHALL BE DONE for you.
CONTINUING IN THE WORD BRINGS FREEDOM
John 8:31,32 – Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you ABIDE IN MY WORD, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.”
THE WORD OF GOD BRINGS LIFE
MATT. 4:4 – He (JESUS) answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not LIVE by bread alone, but BY EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
JOHN 6:63 – The WORDS THAT I SPEAK to you are spirit, and they ARE LIFE.
GOD’S WORD GETS THE JOB DONE
IS. 55:11 – So shall MY WORD be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it SHALL ACCOMPLISH what I please, and it SHALL PROSPER in the thing for which I sent it.
IT BRINGS HEALTH
PROVERBS 16:24 – Pleasant (GOOD) words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and HEALTH to the bones.
PROVERBS 3:7-8 – My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, and HEALTH TO ALL THEIR FLESH.
PSALM 107:20 – He sent HIS WORD and HEALED THEM, and delivered them from their destructions.
EXODUS 15:26 – and (The LORD) said, “If you diligently heed the of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I WILL PUT NONE OF THE DISEASES ON YOU which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I AM THE LORD WHO HEALS YOU.”
THE WORD IS A GIFT GIVEN TO US BY GOD
PSALM 68:11 – The Lord gave THE WORD; Great was the company of those who proclaimed it:
THE WORD PRODUCES WISDOM
COLOSSIANS 3:16 – Let the WORD OF CHRIST dwell in you richly in all WISDOM, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
THE WORD OF THE LORD IS RIGHT AND PRODUCES RIGHTEOUSNESS
PSALM 33:4 – For the WORD OF THE LORD IS RIGHT, and all His work is done in truth.
PSALM 119:172 – My tongue shall speak of YOUR WORD, for all Your commandments are RIGHTEOUSNESS.
ISAIAH 45:23 – The WORD has gone out of My mouth in RIGHTEOUSNESS…
HEBREWS 5:13 – For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, for he is a babe.
IT BRINGS REWARD
PSALM 19:11- Moreover by them (Words) Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is GREAT REWARD.
IT HELPS OUR MINDS TO BE RENEWED TO KNOW GOD’S WILL FOR OUR LIFE
ROMANS 12:2 – And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect WILL OF GOD.
EPHESIANS 4:23 – and BE RENEWED in the spirit of your mind…
IT PRODUCES HOPE
PSALM 42:5,11 – Why are you cast down, O my soul? …HOPE IN GOD…
PSALM 130:5 – – I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and IN HIS WORD I DO HOPE.
JEREMIAH 29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a FUTURE AND A HOPE.
ROMANS 15:4 – For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and COMFORT OF THE SCRIPTURES might have HOPE.
PSALM 19:7-11
The law of the Lord is PERFECT, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is SURE, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the Lord are RIGHT, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is PURE, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are TRUE AND RIGHTEOUS altogether. Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them Your servant is WARNED, and in keeping them there is GREAT REWARD.
