memorizing god’s word – 2

I listened on the phone yesterday evening to Kinah (Shekinah — see the journal post from September 24,2020, “Scripture Memorization”) quote 10 chapters from Proverbs in English (her 2nd language)! She started with chapter 1, and quoted all the way to the end of chapter 10, straight! It was so-o AMAZING!! That is 288 verses!! Kinah’s goal is to memorize the whole book of Proverbs (31 chapters).. She is already in the process of memorizing chapter 11! She wants to beat me! At this rate it looks like she definitely will, and I’m cheering her on all the way…

When she finished, I especially highlighted Proverbs 10:22 to her – “The blessing of the Lord makes RICH, and he adds no sorrow with it”. The blessings of wisdom are priceless. They are more precious than gold, silver, precious stones, or anything else that can be imagined or compared with them! I am so inspired with Kinah’s diligence to memorize God’s Word!

Kinah says that one of her friends is also joining with her in memorizing Proverbs, as well! I look forward to hearing BOTH of them quote the book of Proverbs! Glory, glory hallelujah!

blessings of memorization

The Psalmist said, ” How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word… Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” (Psalm 119:9-11) The blessings of hiding God’s Word in our heart are abundant! It helps us to avoid sin, and helps keep us on the right pathway.

the word of god is true riches

“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you RICHLY in all wisdom…” – Colossians 3:16

Proverbs 2:1-9 – … if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you; so that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding….if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; then shall you understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Matthew 6:21 – For where your TREASURE is, there your HEART will be also.

it produces a long, happy good life & peace

Proverbs 3:1 – …forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments: for length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to you.

Proverbs 4:4,5,20-22 – … retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not… attend to my words; incline your ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the MIDST OF YOUR HEART. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 7:1-3 – …keep my words, and lay up my commandments with you. Keep my commandments, and live… bind them upon your fingers, write them on the table of your heart.

Deuteronomy 6:6; 11:18 – And these words which I command you this day, shall be IN YOUR HEART:… therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul….

Psalm 37:31; 40:8 – The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide… I delight to do your will, O my God: yea, your law is WITHIN MY HEART.

Hebrews 8:10 – … this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their mind, and write them IN THEIR HEARTS: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people…

Joshua 1:8 -This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall MEDITATE in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

  • How can someone MEDITATE in God’s Word day & night – when the lights are out, wherever you go & whatever you do if you don’t have large portions of it put into your heart, and memorized?

Psalm 1:1-3 – Blessed is the man… But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he MEDITATES day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall PROSPER.
