JESUS IS LORD

“THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST”

Psalm 34:3 – Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.

Psalm 8:1 – O LORD, our LORD, how excellent is Your name in all the earth…

Deuteronomy 10:17 – For the Lord your God is God of gods and LORD OF LORDS, the great God, mighty and awesome

I Timothy 6:14-15 – …until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and LORD OF LORDS…

Revelation 17:14 – These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is LORD OF LORDS and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”

Revelation 19:16 – And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:6 – And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitud… saying, “Alleluia! For the LORD GOD OMNIPOTENT reigns!

TRUE & LIVING GOD – (I Kings 18)

18:21 – Elijah gathered the false prophets. If the LORD is God, follow Him, but if Baal, follow him…

18:24 – Call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the God who answers by fire, He is God! 18:26 – They …called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, “O Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice; no one answered.

18:26 – they leaped about the altar which they had made.

18:27 – …at noon, Elijah mocked them and said, “Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened.”

18:28 – So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom,   with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them.

18:29 – they prophesied until the evening sacrifice, but there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention.

18:30 –  Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” …

18:32 – he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench around the altar.

18:33 – And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, “Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood.”

18:34 – Then he said, “Do it a second time,” and they did it a second time; and he said, “Do it a third time,” and they did it a third time.

18:35  So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water.

18:36 – Elijah the prophet came near and said, “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that   You are God in Israel …

18:37 – Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that You are the LORD God

18:38 – Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked   up the water that was in the trench.

18:39 – Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!”

18:40 – And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!” So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon and executed them there.

SERVE THE LORD

Joshua 24:14-15 – “Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served… Serve the LORD15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORDchoose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served …But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

PAUL

Saul was not a good person. He did not believe in the LORD, and was not serving Him until he had an amazing, personal encounter with Jesus. When Jesus revealed himself, his life was radically changed from the time onward,. His name was also changed to Paul.

Acts 9:5 And he said, “Who are You, LORD?” Then the LORD said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

He went on to faithfully fulfill the ministry that he received from the LORD.

Acts 20:24 – But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the LORD Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

OVERCOMING TEMPTATION

It is interesting that Jesus referred the LORDSHIP of God (supreme authority) when overcoming the temptations of the devil.

Matthew 4:7Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ”

Matthew 4:10 – Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

RECOGNITION OF THE LORDSHIP OF GOD IS IMPORTANT

MARK 12:29-30 – Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.  ”And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

ROMANS 1 – 6

(A quick overview of the first 6 chapters of Romans with special highlights regarding this theme…)

Let’s take a fresh look at the judgment for sin that is surely coming, and God’s mercies upon those who accept HIS LORDSHIP.

Romans 1The power of the gospel / God’s wrath upon sin

1:3 – The GOSPEL is all about JESUS.

1:4 – The mighty Son of God was raised from the dead & miraculously set apart with a display of triumphant power… now Jesus is our LORD & Messiah.

1:5 – …so that we can win people from every nation into a FAITHFUL COMMITMENT to Jesus, to bring honor to His name…

1:15,16 – …I am so excited about coming to preach the GOSPEL to you... I refuse to be ashamed of sharing this wonderful message(THE GOSPEL) of God’s liberating power unleashed in us through Christ!

1:17 – This gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness given to us when we believe. It moves us from receiving life through faith, to the POWER OF LIVING BY FAITH… we are right with God through life-giving faith!

1:18 – God reveals His wrath and holy anger against every form of sin, both toward ungodliness & evil actions & liars & evil passions of those living in sin and applauding others that live that way, too.

Romans 2 God judges sin / Religion does not save you

2:7-9 – Those that do good will be rewarded; the unrighteous will be punished.

2:16 – Jesus will judge the hidden secrets of people’s hearts, and their response to the gospel will be the standard of judgment.

2:17-19Religion will not save you!

2:20Don’t be like the hypocrites that don’t practice what they preach, although knowing what is right – but not doing it.

2:29 We need to have a radical change of heart by the power of the Holy Spirit (inviting Jesus into our heart- and allowing Him to be LORD!)

Romans 3God’s RIGHTEOUSNESS

3:23Universal sinfulness – all have sinned & need (come short of) the glory of God.

3:24,25 Jesus liberated us from guilt, punishment, and the power of sin. Jesus delivers from sin – he   takes away our sins, & now He is   our mercy-seat because of His death on the cross & made provision for us to be forgiven by faith in the blood of Jesus.

3:25 – …the demonstration of His justice & mercy.

3:26 – When we stand on the faithfulness of Jesus – God declares us righteous in His eyes.

3:27 – it not by our works – but faith in His finished work that makes us right with God.

3:28 – God’s declaration that we are righteous can only come when we put our faith in Christ.

ROMANS 5GRACE REIGNS THROUGH RIGHTEOUSNESS

Romans 5:21 – so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ OUR LORD.

ROMANS 6 – WE HAVE LIFE THROUGH OUR LORD

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus OUR LORD.

ACTS 2:36
