III. TRUE WORSHIP

  • What is the true worship?
    • to worship God in spirit and truth.
  • So real worship is more than singing songs, real worship involves what Romans says; “your body as a living sacrifice.”
  • Romans 12:1-21 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
    • Worship is what we were created for.
  • John 4:23 (ESV) – 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
    • God is seeking worshipers.
    • God needs to be worshiped in Spirit and in truth.
    • God needs to be known truly
  • John 3:5-8 (ESV) – 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
    • God wants us to worshiped by the power of the Holy Spirit authentically in our spirit.
    • Is your worship coming from your spirit and enabled by the Holy Spirit?
    • How are you honoring God with your life?
    • Is your spirit responding and treasuring true views of God?
    • Do you have any false views of God?
    • How can you strive to know Him more?
    • True worship shows God is the highest value, worthy of praise, and most admiration.
    • The essence of worship is not the movement of lips, hands, knees—but the movement of our hearts towards him every day of our lives
  • Matthew 15:7-8 (ESV) – 7 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: 8 “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
  • John 1:12-13 (ESV) – 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
    • Worship is what we were created for.
    • Worship is not just on Sunday, but happens every day and all the time in all of life.
