This week we celebrated October 10th! What is so special about that date? Well, many years ago (47 to be exact) that was the day when I proposed, and my wife agreed to marry me and be my faithful, life-long companion! How special is that?! I am forever grateful!! Do we love each other? We do… ” ’til death do us part” and forever!!
OCTOBER 10, 1976
What was that day like, so many years ago? I will spare you all the details, but it was a momentous, unforgettable experience together that we will never forget, and we still celebrate the memory of it.
On Oct 10th, as we were driving home from a special time of celebration with some of our family, my wife was sharing some appreciative words about me being her husband. I also shared my gratefulness for her, and that I was possibly even more thankful than her that she is my wife! She is my precious, virtuous, beautiful, faithful, wonderful, and good-hearted wife! As mentioned, I am so-o thankful for the beautiful wife the Lord blessed me with, and I love her dearly!
Why I am sharing this with you? Is that getting too personal? As we consider what the Bible has to say, that is the wonderful privilege of a husband, when being married to a virtuous, godly, and faithful woman. In Proverbs 31 it says of a virtuous woman that… “her husband praises her!”
Let’s look at some of the virtues mentioned in Proverbs 31, together. These are helpful to reflect on, wonderful to recognize, and it is pleasing to the Lord as we give thanks and praise for them!

PROVERBS 31:10-31
10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. 12 She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, she brings her food from afar. 15 She also rises while it is yet night, and provides food for her household, and a portion for her maidservants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; from her profits she plants a vineyard. 17 She girds herself with strength, and strengthens her arms. 18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, and her lamp does not go out by night. 19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, and her hand holds the spindle. 20 She extends her hand to the poor, yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet. 22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies sashes for the merchants. 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Special note: What does a Proverbs 31 woman look like? Here’s a list of some of her virtues: She’s priceless; seeks wisdom; is honest; keeps serving; is faithful; is disciplined; is strong and honorable; is humble; is diligent; is a good steward; is self-controlled; seeks the Lord; is trust-worthy; is a hard and willing worker; does many good works; is a faithful provider; good in business; creative and in; compassionate and giving to the poor and needy; is fearless; a great teammate; prepares for the future; is joyful; speaks wise, kind words; is watchful and alert; isn’t lazy or idle; is blessed and praise-worthy; is excellent; fears the Lord; is fruitful; etc…
Those are some of the descriptions of what the church, the bride of Christ is to be!
GREATNESS OF THE LOVE OF GOD
As wonderful as they are, the happiness, joy, and satisfaction that we may experience in our marriage relationship is relatively insignificant and minimal compared to the greatness and depth of Jesus love for His church, and our love for Him! It surpasses understanding, and words are not sufficient to express it!
I Corinthians 2:9 (Isaiah 64:4) – But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Philippians 4:7 – …the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
I Peter 1:8 – Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory… (AMP) … you greatly rejoice and delight with inexpressible and glorious joy… (CEB) …rejoice with a glorious joy that is too much for words. (GNT) …a great and glorious joy which words cannot express…
Romans 8:35-39 – 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? … 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ephesians 3:17-21 – 17that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge (CJB -…is beyond all knowing; NCV – …Christ’s love is greater than anyone can ever know…) that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

JESUS AND THE CHURCH

Revelation 19:6-9 – …Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigns.7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honor to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife has made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he said unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
