It is THE TRUTH THAT SETS PEOPLE FREE, and helps us have OVERCOMING VICTORY in the midst of a society where lies, deception, and bondage to sin is prevalent. We are living in a sin-sick and sin-darkened world, that desperately needs THE TRUTH!
Daniel had to live in Babylon most if not all of his life. He was forced to live in a godless, and wicked culture. However, He was able to stand strong in the ways of the Lord. He purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself (Daniel 1:8). That was their secret! When Daniel and his friends purposed in their heart that they would not become defiled with the ways of Babylon, that helped to prepare them for the amazing, miraculous victories seen in Daniel 3 (deliverance from the fiery furnace) and in Daniel 6 (DELIVERANCE from the lion in the lions den). When we make up our mind to serve God no matter what, WE can be triumphant in a culture of immorality, perversion, humanism, atheism, relativism, etc. Daniel may have lived in a culture worse than ours, yet he remained TRUE AND FAITHFUL to the Lord! So can we! We can live godly life that pleases the Lord in the midst of paganism.
HOW TO OVERCOME
Revelation 12:11 – And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
- Special note: 1) We overcome by the blood of Jesus – by the finished work of the cross, and the victory that was provided when He said, “IT IS FINISHED”! 2) We overcome by the WORD OF OUR TESTIMONY. When our word agrees and lines up with, and declares the powerful WORD OF THE LORD! Our testimony declares the VICTORY that we have through Christ – “Thanks be to God who gives us the VICTORY THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST!” – I Corinthians 15:57. 3) We are not lovers of ourselves, and living selfish, self-centered lives. When we willingly take up our cross, and lay down our lives in service of our Lord Jesus Christ, and others. When we are willing to die to ourself, and our own selfish desires and ambitions…
I John 5:5 – For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
- Special note: Our faith is key to living the OVERCOMING LIFE. In Romans we find that the Word of faith is near us, in our mouth…
Romans 10:8-10 – But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
- Special note: Confessing and declaring the WORD OF GOD is a key to LIVING THE OVERCOMING LIFE, and experiencing salvation.
I John 2:14 – …I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.
- Special note: Our overcoming strength is in the WORD OF GOD!
Romans 12:21 – Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
- Special note: We overcome by pursuing good, and doing good – not evil!
In John 15:18-19 we see that God doesn’t physically take us out of this world, but He gives us overcoming power in this world to be His witnesses, and shine as lights of His righteousness in this world.
“THE TRUTH…” (1)
THE CHURCH IS TO BE THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH
God has purposed that His church be “THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH” – I Timothy 3:15.
Yet in the midst of these chaotic times, churches who should be STANDING FOR TRUTH AND RIGHTEOUSNESS are getting swept along with some of these movements – and thousands of churches are succumbing to pressures to conform to worldly standards instead of godly principles that are upheld in God’s Word. This is causing division, disunity, and confusion! God’s ways are to bring unity, and Divine Order. There are many who are leaving churches, and like Jesus prophesied, their love for God and His ways is growing cold…
There are some major groups that promote ungodliness, and perversion. They are making their causes into political agenda, civil rights issues, and in many other ways creating great turmoil and confusion. They attempt to silence opposition by attacking them, accusing them of being unloving and intolerant, etc… They are infiltrating every area of life. Even children and youth are being brainwashed to think that sexual promiscuity and perversion is ok!
LOVE FOR THE TRUTH and righteousness
Matthew 24:12 – And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. (Jesus)
These struggles are not just over theological issues. They have to do with heart issues that greatly involve our families, children, community, society, and nations all over the world.
Zechariah 8:19 – “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘… love truth and peace.’
Isaiah 61:8 – For I, the Lord, love justice;… I will direct their work in truth…
UNRIGHTEOUS DECEPTION – NOT LOVING THE TRUTH
2 Thessalonians 2:10 – …and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
GODLY MARRIAGE IS HONORABLE
We are taught in the Bible that Biblical marriage is honorable.
Hebrews 13:4 – Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
- Special note: These days, marriage as God has designed it is being degraded, and perverted. There is a righteous lifestyle that is the way of life, and there is an unrighteous one that leads to death and destruction. There are some activities that God’s Word declares as sinful, and we are to avoid involvement in sin. A violation of God’s pro-creative design for sex within the context of marriage brings God’s judgment, and wrath.
Romans 1:18-32 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because… although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
- Special note: There are lifestyles being promoted these days that are contrary to God’s revealed purpose and design for righteous, holy people. They are in violation of God’s created order. There are some that demonize pro-creation as something that is not good, promoting promiscuity, sexual exploitation, and involvement in activities that displease the Lord. They blaspheme the sacred illustration of Christ and His church, and the holy sacrament of marriage (Ephesians 5). They deny the need for sanctification, holiness and purity. They promote a worship of self, and self-interests instead of the true worship of God that He requires.
WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH
John 4:23-24 – But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
STANDING FOR THE TRUTH
It is important to hear what the Bible has to say about man and woman, and the Biblical context of sex, and why God created mankind with a sex drive for procreation…
We must stand unapologetically for THE TRUTH! We need not apologize for what the Bible teaches! His Word reveals His will! It is His Holy Book that is inspired by Him…
2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work
We CANNOT REWRITE THE BIBLE to accommodate a society that needs the Bible. God’s culture transcends our culture. HIS WORD doesn’t bow to trends of culture that are contrary to His ways. It promotes sound doctrine, even when it may not be popular or trendy. Scriptures reveal His un-compromised, undiluted Word and direction, not just what people want to hear to make them feel good.
True love defined has very little to do with our feelings! In Mark 10:21 when it says that “Jesus, looking at him, loved him…“ is part of a story of the rich young ruler hearing the truth he needed to hear, but rejecting it. LOVE IS ABOUT THE TRUTH, not just about feelings. It is not just about sex. It has to do with the revelation of God’s love, which supersedes and overshadow all else. It is about THE TRUTH revealed in God’s Word that reveals the best way of life! As Christians, we are to follow the teaching of God as revealed in the Bible, and avoid destructive ways of sinful activities that bring God’s judgment and dreadful consequences.
The Biblical definition of loving activities is different than worldly perspectives. The Bible says, “love rejoices in the truth”! (I Corinthians 13:7). As Christians, when we are committed to follow Jesus and live for Him, we need to live Jesus’s way – not like the world! True love doesn’t rejoice in evil and corruption! It doesn’t rejoice in what God doesn’t love! Love for Jesus is shown by our obedience…
John 14:15,21; 2 John 1:6 – (Jesus said) “If you love Me, keep My commandments... 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”… 6 and this is love, that we walk after His commandments…
There are things that the Bible clearly identifies as sinful practices. God does not want us to participate in those things. Activities that the Bible says are an abomination are a serious offense to God, and bring severe consequences. Sexual immorality is never spoken of in a favorable way in Scripture. That includes many sexual practices that the world promotes, and defends…
We are to love people, but hate sin and evil! God is wanting us to be godly and righteous, patterning our lives after Him and His ways. Ungodly, unrighteous, and evil activities will be severely judged by the Lord. There are consequences for our behavior, whether good or bad…
Psalm 97:10 – You who love the Lord, hate evil!…
This is not just about trying to win a debate or argument. It has to do with right and wrong – not about what people like, or not. If we really believe the Bible, we know that we will someday give account for ourselves, for things done – whether good or bad. (Romans 14:12 – “...each of us shall give account of himself to God”.) This is about eternity, and eternal values. God is not only a father – He is a judge. We will all be JUDGED by the Lord someday. (Hebrews 9:27 – … it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment…)
Jesus does not condone immorality.
Mark 7:20-23 – He (JESUS) said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
- Special note: The Greek word for “fornication” – “porneia”, includes many defiling, sinful practices promoted by the world. When you google that word on the internet, this is the definition of it as found there: “porneia means ‘prostitution, unchastity, fornication, of every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse’ ” (2)
Matthew 19:4 – He (JESUS) answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female…
- Special note: Like the saying goes – “seek no other sense when it is plain sense” (1). Jesus made it clear that God made 2 sexes, with special purpose for each of them within His creative plans for mankind. A violation of Biblical order in those plans brings severe consequences and God’s judgment (see the story of Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 19:24-29).
- Jude 1:7 – …as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
I Corinthians 6:9-11 – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.…
Leviticus 18:22; 20:13 – You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination...24 ‘Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. 25 For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. 26 You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you 27 (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), 28 lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. 29 For whoever commits any of these abominations, the persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people... 13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
- Special note: Although the ceremonial law has been fulfilled in Christ and abolished, the moral law of righteousness has never been abolished. There are some things that are clearly an abomination to the Lord! Isaiah 51:6 – “My righteousness will not be abolished!”
HOPE FOR SINNERS and for the world
Is there hope for sinners? Is there cleansing for sin available? The good news is YES! We must all acknowledge our sins, repent of them, and whole-heartedly turn to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing. Jesus died for everybody, and there is hope for everybody upon true, sincere repentance – through His loving sacrifice on the cross which provides salvation for people all over the world who believe in Him, and receive Him and His commandments and are lovingly willing to submit to His Lordship in our
I John 1:7-9; 2:1-2 – …the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness... if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
Ephesians 2:12-13 – ...at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Isaiah 66:2 – (The Lord says…) “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word.
- Special note: Following Jesus means that we need to HUMBLY submit to the Lordship of Jesus, and not continue in sinful ways.
I Corinthians 6:9-11 – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?… 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
Titus 1:2; 2:13,3:7 – …in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began… looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
2 Thessalonians 2:16 – Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,
Acts 2:26 – …my flesh also will rest in hope.
Galatians 5:5 – we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Hebrews 3:6; 6:11,18-19; 10:23 – …Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end... we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end…
that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us... This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil… Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Colossians 1:27 – …Christ in you, the hope of glory.
I Peter 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Romans 5:2, 15:4,13 – …through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God... whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope...Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
